Major changes and evolvements in the structure and networks of the organization also took place in 2022. Following is a recap of the highlights of the past year, and a preview of what is going to happen for the new year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In March 2022, a <\/span><b>new Executive Director<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Victoria Lichet, was appointed. Yann Aguila, former Executive Director, became <\/span><b>President of the Coalition<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On April 12th, 2022, a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.co.uk\/e\/un-recognition-of-the-right-to-a-healthy-environment-past-and-future-tickets-302868908057\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">seminar<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> discussing the <\/span><b>UN Recognition of the Right to a Healthy Environment <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">took place at New York University. This seminar was organized by the Centre for Human Rights and Global Justice, the Universal Rights Group, the UN Special Rapporteur, and UNEP. The Global Pact Coalition was a <\/span><b>co-sponsor<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of this event.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Victoria Lichet participated in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/environmentalpolicyandlaw.com\/news-blog\/envisioning-our-environmental-future-watch-webinar-recording\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">webinar<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> hosted by the <\/span><b>Environmental Policy and Law Journal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on June 3rd, 2022. Prominent speakers were able to present their solutions to solve the triple global crisis in terms of <\/span><b>climate change<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>biodiversity loss<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>pollution<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This webinar celebrating the <\/span><b>50th anniversary of the Stockholm Conference<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was an opportunity for speakers to reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of <\/span><b>international environmental law<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yann Aguila took part in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ub-edu.zoom.us\/rec\/play\/d6xaw8VfcdUVHiXp8CSnFjvVy4ZdHH51pLwikmfpRIi7pd8GVXE5Pwn85N_-EEPetUWEsLg-zXfbGnZY.gUw4XzThA8rYIPPO?autoplay=true&amp;continueMode=true&amp;startTime=1655797051000\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">seminar<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> organized by the <\/span><b>Universities of Barcelona and Rovira i Virgili<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on June 20th and 21st, 2022. The seminar celebrated the 1972 Stockholm Conference and 50 years of international environmental law. Yann Aguila closed the event talking about the <\/span><b>future of international environmental governance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and presenting the draft <\/span><b>Global Pact for the Environment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yann Aguila participated in a webinar organized by the <\/span><b>Environmental Law Center of the University of Chile<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on July 5th, 2022. The webinar discussed the content of the project of an <\/span><b>environmental constitution for Chile<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The UN General Assembly\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/undocs.org\/Home\/Mobile?FinalSymbol=A%2FRES%2F76%2F300&amp;Language=E&amp;DeviceType=Desktop&amp;LangRequested=False\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Resolution 76\/300<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the <\/span><b>human right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was adopted on July 28th, 2022. The resolution followed months of mobilization by civil society organizations, among which the GPC.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Victoria Lichet took part in the <\/span><b>Environmental Policy and Law<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (EPL)\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vPTPPGLpRFI\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">webinar<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> led by the Editor-in-Chief Bharat H. Desai, Ph.D. and a panel of experts that <\/span><b>discussed the adoption of UNGA\u2019s resolution 76\/300<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, on September 20th, 2022.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Victoria Lichet participated online in the <\/span><b>IUCN International Environmental Law Conference<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Oslo, Norway, from October 3rd to October 6th, 2022. More specifically, she intervened in <\/span><b>session 31<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: \u201c<\/span><b><i>Transformation through linking human rights and environment<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d focusing on \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><\/i><b><i>convention on the right to a healthy environment<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to enshrine the <\/span><\/i><b><i>third generation<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of human rights: the <\/span><\/i><b><i>environmental rights<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The GPC revived its <\/span><b>ambassadors\u2019 networks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to allow for the organization of webinars and other events, such as social media\u2019s promotions by ambassadors. The main event organized by the GPC\u2019s ambassadors this year was a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/PW1T4PX6qvg\"><b>webinar <\/b><\/a><b>promoting <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>Global Pact for the Environment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>sharing key aspects<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the role of <\/span><b>international volunteers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, on December 7th, 2022.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the upcoming year, 2023, we anticipate the following exciting developments:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First of all, the GPC is happy to advertise the remaking of the Blog <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPathway to the 2022 Declaration\u201d, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">now <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greendiplomacy.org\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Diplomacy<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The blog is expanding its scope to <\/span><b>advance international environmental law and governance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to meet the challenges of today.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, <\/span><b>videos<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> presenting the most important <\/span><b>principles <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">included in the draft Global Pact for the Environment will be released on the GPC\u2019s social media in <\/span><b>February 2023<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last but not least, the GPC hopes to bring back <\/span><b>discussion around an international convention on the right to a healthy environment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Following the UN General Assembly\u2019s recognition of the right to a healthy environment as a human right, marking a <\/span><b>new era in the development of the field of human rights and the environment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, we are hopeful about the continuity and pushing forward of the UNGA resolution, turning the recognized rights into an <\/span><b>international convention on environmental rights<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Global Pact team is grateful for its partners, ambassadors and everyone\u2019s continuous support.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the year of 2022, the Global Pact Coalition (GPC) took part in a number of events and negotiations in the field of international environmental law.
