A new resolution on the Global Pact for the Environment from United Nations General Assembly

On August 30st 2019, three months after the outcome of the Nairobi negotiations, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a new resolution relating to the Global Pact for the Environment. In the resolution, the Assembly « noted with satisfaction the work of the working group » and it « agreed with all its recommendations » which are annexed to the resolution.

Thus, the Global Pact is still topical. It is necessary to maintain its primary ambition: to be the first global treaty for the environment that consolidates all principles, rights and duties concerning the environment. This is the goal to achieve in 2022, at the next Earth Summit.
