In 1972, the first major conference on the environment resulted in the adoption of the historic Stockholm Declaration. In 2021, 49 years later, the Global Pact Coalition decided to organize the Stockholm+49 Summit, a pre-summit to the Stockholm+50 Summit that will bring together heads of states and governments in June 2022 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the declaration.
On October 20 and 21, 2021, the Stockholm+49 Summit brought together key policy makers with leading lawyers, scientists, economists and activists to answer one question: how can we make 2022 a game changer?
The Summit, co-organized with 4 organizations, brought together leading personalities such as: Inger Andersen (Director General of UNEP), Maria Fernanda Espinosa (President of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly), Izabella Teixeira (former Minister of Environment of Brazil), David R. Boyd (UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and the Environment). These personalities had the opportunity to discuss the political declaration to be adopted in March 2022 by UNEP: how to make this text as ambitious as possible?
The replay of the summit is available here.
