COP15 to the Convention on Biological Diversity

The 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity was held in October 2021 in Kunming, Yunnan Province of China. Originally scheduled for October 15-28, 2020, it was postponed due to the health crisis and divided into two parts: a first part in October 2021 and a second part postponed to spring 2022.

The Conference of the Parties meets every two years to set targets in accordance with the Convention on Biological Diversity adopted in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. It brings together States Parties, civil society, the private sector and NGOs.

With the theme “Ecological Civilization: Building a Shared Future for All Life on Earth“, the international conference could lead to the signature by the 196 Member States of a goal to protect 30% of the planet by 2030.
