First part of the Fifth United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-5)

The United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) is one of the major international meetings for the environment. Convened by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), it brings together every two years all  193 Member States, as well as civil society representatives.

The focusing on “Strengthening Actions for Nature to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals”, will have a first online session, dedicated inter alia to define the actions and the budget allocated to the UNEP. 

The 5th session of the UNEA, will be organized in two parts. The first will be held online from February 22 to 26, 2021 to mitigate the spread of Covid-19. It will be the occasion to define the actions and the budget allocated to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). 

The second part will be held the following year, in February 2022, in person, and will be devoted to substantial issues. The theme of this session is “Strengthening Actions for Nature to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals”. It will particularly focus on preparing the Political Declaration provided for in UNGA resolution 73/333 of 30 August 2019 in line with the “Towards a Global Pact for the Environment” resolution of May 10, 2018.
