The World Environmental Law Congress of the IUCN

8 December 2021 - 10 December 2021
Hybrid event in Rio de Janeiro

The World Commission on Environmental Law of the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) organized a World Congress on the role of judges and legal perspectives post 2030 from December 8 to 10, 2021.

The Global Pact Coalition was fortunate to participate in this Congress where more than 50 judges and legal professionals gathered for a hybrid conference conducted from the Supreme Court of the State of Rio.

We spoke on a panel about the promises made by Cop 26 in Glasgow and the perspectives opened by Stockholm +50, which will be held in 2022. This panel was an opportunity to discuss the future of the Pact and the recognition of the right to a healthy environment with emblematic personalities such as David Boyd (UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights and the Environment) and Lord Robert Carnwath (Former UK Supreme Court Justice).
