WCEL European Environmental Law Congress

16 December 2021 - 17 December 2021
Hybrid event in Paris

On December 16-17, the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law hosted a hybrid event with its European partners in Paris, to pursue reflections on measuring the effectiveness of environmental law through legal indicators.

Legal regimes are critical to address environmental threats from pollution, biodiversity loss, and the climate crisis. Environmental laws are only useful, however, if they are effectively applied. Legal indicators provide a mechanism to evaluate the impact of laws on the natural environment.

The European Conference was the fourth regional conference, preceded by the African, Inter-American, and Oceania Conference. It delt with “Measuring the effectiveness of environmental law through legal indicators”.
