The ICJ requires for the first time compensation for pure ecological damage


On February 2nd, 2018,  the International Court of Justice stands for the first time that General International Law requires compensation for (pure) environmental damage, and finds that a State is entitled to compensation for the ecological damage caused in its territory by another State.

The Court also deals with the difficult issues of causality analysis and evaluation of the damage to be repaired.
